Tell Us Once: what it covers after a death
Tell Us Once can reduce some of the government admin after a death, but it does not contact private organisations such as banks, insurers or utility companies.
GOV.UK says Tell Us Once can be used if the person who died was living in England, Scotland or Wales. It cannot be used if they were living in Northern Ireland when they died.
What it can notify
- HM Revenue and Customs.
- Department for Work and Pensions.
- Passport Office and DVLA.
- Local council services such as council tax or blue badges.
- Some public sector pension services.
What to prepare
You may need details such as the person's date of birth, National Insurance number, driving licence number, passport number, benefits information and local council details. The registrar will explain how to access the service where it is available.
What it does not cover
- Banks and building societies.
- Private pension providers.
- Insurance companies.
- Energy, water, phone and broadband providers.
- Subscriptions, memberships and online accounts.
